Part one

About Purus.

What is Purus?

Purus is a dynamic-membrane filtration platform that delivers membrane-grade water quality at the throughput, footprint and operating cost of industrial-scale filtration. The chemistry was invented at one of Queensland’s leading universities, published in Nature, and is now exclusively licensed to Blue Quest Group. The modular vessel platform around it is patent-pending.

How does it compare to traditional cartridge filtration?

Cartridge filters trade off throughput against removal — finer cartridges remove more but flow less and need frequent replacement. The Purus gel-membrane configuration delivers virus-grade removal (6 log reduction) at industrial throughput, with regenerable backwash operation rather than disposable cartridges. The coarser micron options trade some removal for higher throughput, but all share the same vessel architecture and maintenance philosophy.

Is the technology proven?

Yes. Trials at four named industrial sites — CS Energy at Kogan Creek dam, Evolve Group manufacturing, Terella Brewing, and Surf Lakes — with results independently validated by ALS Laboratories. See the Case studies page for the details.

Is Blue Quest Australian-owned?

Yes. Blue Quest Group Pty Ltd is an Australian company. Engineering, assembly and customer support all run from our facility in Windsor, Brisbane.

Part two

Buying & sizing.

Which Purus model do I need?

Throughput drives the size choice. The Purus 50.2 (small fixed unit, ~58 kL/day) suits buildings, HVAC, and craft brewing. The Purus 100.5 (skid, ~100 m³/day) suits general industrial, dams, and food production. The Purus 100.20 (20-ft containerised, ~3 ML / 30 days) suits mining, irrigation, and mobile deployments. See the Products page for full specs, or model your own scenario in the Filter Builder.

What’s the typical lead time?

Lead time depends on the model, configuration, and queue at the time of order. Reach out via the contact form with your size, application and target timing and we’ll come back with a tailored response.

What does it cost?

Capital cost depends on configuration, balance-of-plant requirements and site context. For ROI modelling, the Filter Builder lets you plug in your own variables (water selling price, electricity, duty cycle) to see the annual return each filter element delivers. For an actual quote, contact us.

Can I run a trial before committing?

Yes. Site trials are how we got the validated data on the Case studies page, and we encourage anyone considering Purus at scale to do the same. Trial scope is set per site — get in touch with your application details and we’ll put together a proposal.

Part three

Operations & maintenance.

What’s the day-to-day maintenance philosophy?

Backwash regeneration, not cartridge replacement. The gel membrane configuration is designed to be regenerated through backwash cycles rather than disposed of and replaced. The coarser micron elements have longer service intervals than equivalent cartridges and replacement is straightforward when needed. See the Filter Builder for an indicative comparison against typical cartridge OPEX.

How does the backwash work?

Sequential. In multi-vessel installations, one vessel runs a backwash cycle at a time while the others continue producing — so total system uptime is maintained. Single-vessel installations include a duty-cycle allowance for backwash (defaults to 80% on the gel configuration; 100% on coarser options).

What energy do the systems use?

Each vessel runs on a dedicated pump set sized for the platform. Multi-vessel installations scale the pumping infrastructure proportionally. Detailed energy figures are reflected in the Filter Builder — flow it through with your local electricity tariff and operating hours.

What ongoing support is available?

Blue Quest provides commissioning, training, and ongoing technical support from the Brisbane facility. Specific support arrangements (response times, spares strategy, remote monitoring) are set as part of the supply agreement — talk to us about what your site needs.

Part four

Validation & support.

Where can I see trial results?

Our Case studies page covers the four validated trial sites with summary results. Full trial reports and site-specific performance data are available on request for serious enquiries — email [email protected].

Who validates the trial data?

ALS Laboratories. Independent verification on every trial — testing is run, sampled and reported through ALS, not in-house.

Do you deploy outside Australia?

The platform is engineered for export and we’re actively building international pathways. Reach out with your country, application and target volumes and we’ll come back with what’s practical.

Can I visit your facility?

Yes — engineering, assembly and customer trials all run from our Windsor, Brisbane site, and we welcome visits from prospective customers. Get in touch via contact and we’ll set up a time.

Still got a question?

If we missed yours, drop us a line. We read every message and reply within two business days — engineering, sales and support all answer from Brisbane.
